TheyRave

TheyRave for eBay sellers

Eighty characters is not a review

eBay feedback is a percentage and a comment of eighty characters at most, which is room for "A+++ fast ship" and little else. It also stays on eBay. Start selling from your own site or at a market stall and none of it comes along, and a buyer weighing you against a seller with ten times your volume has nothing to read but the number. A review page gives a happy buyer room to say what they bought and why they would come back.

When to ask

The day the package arrives, when they have just opened it and checked it against the listing.

Send the link then, not in a follow-up a month later. A review is written in the mood the buyer is in when they get the link, and that is the mood you want on the page.

What to ask

The form has one box, and what goes in it depends on what you asked. These get an answer a stranger can use. “Great seller” does not.

  • What did you buy, and what condition was it in when it arrived?
  • How did it compare to the photos and the description?
  • What would you tell somebody watching one of this seller's listings?

What lands on your page

An example, written to show the shape. The name, the tags and the verified mark come from the reviewer and the link they used, and nothing shows until you approve it.

Example

Camera came wrapped in more padding than I knew existed. Shutter fires at every speed like the listing said, and he put in a note on loading the first roll.
Marcus, Bought a film camera

Worth knowing

Read eBay's rules on links in messages before you send yours through one. A printed card in the box with your review link on it reaches the buyer without going through eBay at all.

◆ Free

Pick the handle at the end of your address and it is yours. Send the link, approve what comes back, and the page is live.
