A portfolio is the ten best photos out of a thousand taken
A couple booking a wedding photographer, or a family booking a session, is trusting someone with a day they cannot redo. The portfolio answers whether the photos come out well. It says nothing about whether the photographer showed up on time, made everyone comfortable in front of the camera, or delivered the gallery when promised instead of three months late. That is what a review actually covers.
When to ask
Once the final gallery is delivered, while the excitement of seeing the photos is still fresh.
Send the link then, not in a follow-up a month later. A review is written in the mood the buyer is in when they get the link, and that is the mood you want on the page.
What to ask
The form has one box, and what goes in it depends on what you asked. These get an answer a stranger can use. “Great seller” does not.
- What was the shoot for?
- How did the day itself go?
- How long did it take to get your photos, and were they worth the wait?
What lands on your page
An example, written to show the shape. The name, the tags and the verified mark come from the reviewer and the link they used, and nothing shows until you approve it.
Example
Booked for family photos with two toddlers who refused to cooperate and she still walked away with shots we are framing. Gallery arrived a full week early.
Worth knowing
Send the link in the same email as the final gallery download. That is the moment clients are happiest with what they got.
