How to keep your page private
· 3 min read
If you sell something where your real name should stay out of it, a review page can still work for you. It only takes a few settings chosen on purpose, before you send the link to anyone.
Pick a handle that is not your legal name
Your handle is the end of your page address. It is the first thing a stranger sees, so choose the name you already go by with your buyers. Do not use your legal name, your hometown or your birth year. If a buyer could find you from the handle alone, pick a different one.
Decide who can open the page
The editor has a setting called Page visibility with three choices.
- Anyone: anyone can open the page and search engines list it.
- People with the link: anyone you send the link to can open it, and search engines do not list it.
- Only me: only you can open it. Anyone else gets the site's page-not-found.
Start on People with the link or Only me while you set things up. Move to Anyone when you are ready to be found. You can move back at any time.
Let reviewers stay anonymous
A reviewer can leave a name or skip it. The site does not record an email address or a home address from them, and a name never becomes a link. Nothing shows on your page until you approve it, so you read each review before anyone else does.
Give a second person a seat
If you would rather not read every review yourself, a second seat can be given to one person you trust. They can approve, hide and reply to reviews and nothing else. They cannot change your page, your settings or your account. The second seat is part of Supporter.
Use an email that is only for this
Sign up with an address you do not use for anything else. The email the site sends when a review arrives never says what you sell, so it is safe to open in front of other people. A separate address also keeps your other accounts out of it if this one is ever shared or found.
A short safe setup
- Choose a handle that is not your legal name.
- Sign up with an email that is only for this page.
- Set Page visibility to People with the link.
- Add your first reviews and read each one before you approve it.
- Move to Anyone when you want to be found.
